Can-Con 2010 (Ottawa): August 20: Janet will be appearing with writer-director Lloyd Deane to talk about her role in the short science fiction film M-THEORY.

FanExpo 2010 (Toronto), August 27-29: Janet & Ronn will be in artist's alley. Come by to for great original art or to chat!

Montreal Comic-Con 2010, (Montreal) September 11-12: Janet & Ronn will have a table. Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) will be there too, so here's your chance to get original Elvira comic book art pages from Ronn and get them signed!

Hetherington: Mad as a Hatter?

Johnny Depp made a memorable and totally jiggy Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's 2010 film reimagining of the classic Lewis Carroll tale Alice in Wonderland.

However, it was a Hetherington who purportedly frst went wiggy with a top hat. John Hetherington was an English haberdasher who supposedly modified a riding hat into a top hat, widening the brim and lengthening it.

In 1797, Hetherington and his top hat caused a riot in the streets of London. People are said to have run in terror, with dogs barking and women fainting. The crowd broke the arm of an errand boy as they ran like Tokyo citizens fleeing Godzilla.

Hetherington was charged in court with wearing "a tall structure having a shining luster calculated to frighten timid people" and was fined £50.

Sounds like a great premise for a Zatanna story: "Mood fo tah pot ehT!!!"

M-THEORY Feedback

M-THEORY writer-director Lloyd Deane reports very positive feedback for his short SF film at the Wreck-Beach Film Festival. Lloyd is waiting now to hear if the film has been accepted into other festivals.

Lloyd is encouraging people to view the movie on IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1673609) and asks viewers to rate it using the star rating system on the web page.

"I know lots of people have viewed it but it would be nice to have the movie rated, and it's super easy to do," Lloyd says. " Just drag your cursor over the stars and pick a number of stars out of 10 you think it deserves."

M-THEORY to screen at Can-Con SF show in Ottawa

Writer/producer Lloyd Deane is in Inisfil, Ontario on July 30 for the Wreck-Beach Film Festival (http://www.domecountry.com/pages/selections2010.html) to screen his short science fiction film M-THEORY.

Later, in August, Lloyd will again show M-THEORY at Ottawa's Can-Con science fiction convention. I'll be in attendance to answer questions about my role as Mrs. Dillworth.

CAN-CON SCIENCE FICTION CONFERENCE IN OTTAWA THIS AUGUST

EVENT:
The Conference on Canadian Content in Speculative Arts and Literature or CAN-CON for short, is Ottawa's Premier celebration of Science Fiction and Fantasy. Started in 1992, CAN-CON has had as past guests most of the top authors in this field. Our guest of honor this year is Ottawa's own Marie Bilodeau. Open to the public, tickets are available through the website at http://can-con.org/, or at the door. Costumes are welcomed (though they aren't necessary).
This year's theme is Steampunk: Victorian Stylings with Punk attitude and a side of pipes & gears.

San Diego Hot! Hot! Hot!

Countdown to Comic-Con... arrived in San Diego and the city sights and palm trees beckon from outside my hotel window. This hotel has some very cool eagle stonework on the building. The weather outside is hot, but then again so was Ottawa when we left. Trying to shake the traveller's fatigue and go exploring.

Tomorrow I hang my artwork in the art show and the con begins with preview night!
